Hi there everyone,
Suppose I should start by introducing myself a bit. I'm Vicki (pretty obviously) and me and OH adopted a lovely little doglet last year (although from thornberry in the end as we saw her and fell in love) called Poppy. She's not exactly the angel she appeared to be, but we'll get there slowly and thats a hole different story.
The reason I felt compelled to post was that I was browsing through the 'sheffield dogs' page (becasue we need another dog right now like a hole in the head) and spotted 'flake' and was wondering if there was any details on his history. He is the spitting image of my lass (only she's black not borwn) and we know she was bred from before she was handed in to Thornberry, and he would be about the right age.
Anyway, here's a couple of photos of Poppy, the ears are normlly up like a satellite unless she's been up to mischief (the mischief behind this photo was herding my pony through about a foot of mud)
oh and one of the pony (Milo) so he doesn't feel left out

Hi vicki and welcome to the Rain Rescue forum we hope you'll stick around
the person most likely to have further info on Flake is Albertandtilly (Adz) as it's she who goes to the pound to take the photo's. Her posting can be a bit on and off due to shift patterns, so if you don't get a reply straight away, check back in a couple of days
We had a Jack Russell with ears almost as spectacular as that pair!!
It sounds like you have your hands full with your current small collection of animals

What's more amzing is that I managed to forget these two, our guinea-pigs.
The orange one is Gert (don't ask, OH named her) and the white lardy one is DeBois who we had from a rescue after Gert's sister sadly died.
Thankfully though, Poppy is a saint with them, I think she thinks they might be her pups, she likes to keep them very clean

well, she's definitely got staffi in her (so when all the local hoodlums are causing trouble we present them wiht our tough staffi X, ha ha ), but she has the swirls on her head, so its definitely there, and we're about 99% sure there's collie in there too, with maybe some sort of sight hound (best guess whippet) because she does the sight hound pointing and runs like a greyhound.
The alternative theory is staffi X bat!

swirls?
it's those ears that are fascinating me!
I can't for the life of me remember the breed I'm thinking of, but I'll post a link if I'm inspired
I was also wondering if there's any manchester terrier in there - not a breed that immediately springs to mind when trying to identify cross breeds - or pure ones in rescue either

I'd never heard of the manchester terrier, but having googled them she definitely looks like there could be an influence (read huge ears) there.
by swirls I meant the markings staffis seem to have on their face
the almost bald like wringles over their eyes and the line in the middle.
this picture http://www.minigalleryworld.com/Janice_McGloine/art27904 (although a painting) shows it quite well I wouldn't know what to call them, but then the manchester terrier has similar so maybe she's actually not as complex as we thought and could just be a manc terrier X collie!?

Hi Vicki
Sorry i missed your post.
Flake went to a new home on Saturday he was also seen by someone on the Rain website so that shows what we are doing is working
The page has been updated today with new dogs. There is a lovely collie X called Meg who is gorg and a nice young JRT but most of the others are staffy or big breeds so not sure what you are looking for. Let me know if you like and i will keep my eyes open for you
Your poppy reminds me of my Tilly also from thornberry except Tilly is 14

Oh no, we're really not looking for another dog, think OH would kill me, Poppy is my world but she's 26 hours a day work (she doesn't like people or dogs) and is a nutter to go with it. But don't get me wrong I wouldn't swap her.
In fact, I mentioned fudge to OH and said "but if we could work out it was one of her pups wouldn't it be nice to reunite them" he answer "yes......no, we are NOT having another dog" and large arguement commenced-oops

did you read the breed characteristics for the Manchester too?
sounds like another dog may not be the best idea - especially if she is a manchester cross
(you'll just have to find a rescue centre to borrow dogs from for odd walks here and there )

Yeah, I read the charecteristics and thought it sounded like someone had just written about her. Especially the excessive piercing bark and finding kids a bit much (like she's really rather eat them).
That said, she apprently used to live with 2 other dogs and 3 under 5's (mind you thats enought to put anyone off) so I think theres hope she'll settle again.
In fact I'm some what counting on it as I don't much fancy starting a family in my 40s!

ahhhhh
do you know why she was rehomed though? were the other dogs rehomed too?
if you're planning to have kids, I'd make sure you crate train Poppy first - mainly for her benefit, as a crate is a fantastic hidey place away from kids, and it's much easier to teach a kid not to disturb a dog in a cage than it is to stop them climbing in the dog basket for some reason

She's used a crate before although I wouldn't say she was 'crate' trained, but so far we are very keen she has he own space where she can be in peace (unless I want a cluddle and she quit often tells me incertain terms in not welcome)
She was rehomed because the family spilt up, but apparently when taken to the centre the mother said 'well the kids used to torment her' and when asked if she's try to stop them she said 'well no, you know what its like with kids and dogs' so I think it is learnt behaviour rather than inherent and hopefully we can slowly (and safely) teach her that children are [sometimes] nice, and that even if she doesn't like them she can run way rather than trying to eat them.
