Have you stayed anywhere nice that's pet/dog friendly?

We've used http://www.welcomecottages.com a few times now, and like the search facility and the number of photo's of each property that are available to help make your choice

we also regularly use travelodges (booking early for the best discounts). Dogs are charged at £10 per dog per stay, though occasionally this fee has been waived as our dog sleeps in his crate in hotels - Remember to book via the 'support us' page on the main RainRescue website. RainRescue receives a donation from Travelodge at no extra cost to you when booked via the link there

we also recommend the Moulin Inn at Pitlochry. An olde worlde inn with rooms above, and whisky fudgecake to die for!!

I would always recomend Bamburgh to anyone that wants to come to the North East.
The beaches are beautiful, the castle is stunning, and there are hundreds of walks and pick nic places - all dog friendly There is an information site in Seahouses ( a little village about 3 miles away and straight along the coast front) that has all the details of walks and events that go on too as well as selling books and maps.
Dogs wouldnt be able to go in to the the actual castles, ( there are around 7 in total all near Bamburgh) with the exception of Bamburgh Alnwick and i think Chillingham the rest of the castles do have grounds/walks that dogs are allowed on.
Alnwick (Harry Potter castle) is a 15min drive away it has a park and woodland walk just on the outskirts of the town (dogs arn't allowed in the castle & gardens but are allowed in the adjoining field that looks on to the castle.
And there are quite a few pubs(i have been in and eaten in all of them Razz ) that have very nice food and at pretty reasonable prices. 1 pub does allow dogs at the minute however this might be subject to change as its undergoing a refurbishment so im not sure if this will still be allowed, there is one with a beer garden that allows dogs (in the garden part not the bar) and Im not sure about the others, so i'd have to find out about those.
I must say tho that the best place for fish and chips up there is in a village called Beadnal about a 5 min drive away. There is a few holiday homes on that web site (welcomecottages) and all of them are in really nice places. There are also pleanty of caravan sites around that you can hire a van on, they also allow pets and campers.

That's fantastic info Sarah Smile

We keep looking at the scenery in that neck of the woods when we're passing through by train on the way to Scotland. Is any of this easily accessible from a train station?

Train routes are one thing I havent got a clue about! The closest one to get off at would be Berwick if the one you were travelling on went there.
Berwick is just a small sort of town nice to look aroud but not anywhere near as nice as further down the coast, berwick is about a 20 min drive back down the A1 to get to Bamburgh. You'd have to hire a car how ever it would be worth it.
The closest caravan park to Berwick that you can hire vans on is Haggerston its to your left when travelling down the A1, and the castle is in the caravan park, it's a very nice park with its own horse riding facillities, swimming pool, etc but its not that close to the beach, the next site down the A1 again on the left would be the route to Holy Island it's a lovely little place but not much to do and thats one castle i haven't been to so unsure about it for pets or any thing.
The beaches there are mainly cobbles so not the nicest things to walk on either and you'd have to check the crossing times so your not stranded there for a while untill the tide turns again Shocked There is a pub called the Plough at the turning from the A1 to the road that leads to Holy Island, its food is lovely and it has the crossing times to the ilsand on a board outside it.
Your next place would be Chillingham castle and Hepburn Woods that would be on your right. Hepburn has a multitude of walks through woodland and open heather moor, if your in to sight seeing this place has fantastic views for the country side and in among the heather are boulders with bronze age carving on them.
Chillingham castle has its own woodland walks and i think you can take dogs on that part of the ground but would have to find out for definate about that. The castle its self in nice to look in but my favorite part is the tourtcher chamber!
There are 3 valleys close by too, Happy, College and Ingram. Not much more to elaborate on these, valleys with streams and stunning veiws over the Ceviots and when clear the pennines.
Then you'd hit Bamburgh!
So thats all with in 20 mins of Berwick but unless you have a car you cannot really get anywhere Exclamation

In November we had a week at Roseacre cottage in Cumbria. The cottage is in a village called alonby on the solway Firth and is literally on the beach. cottage beautiful sleeps 4 humans and how many dogs you want to bring for no extra charge. Garden is fully enclosed a must in our eyes, small but the beach is across the Road. The beach goes on for miles and is lovely to walk on. So much other stuff on the doorstep you are in the lakes after all. We went to Derwent water, Cockermouth, carlisle, Maryport, Hadrians wall walking all sorts. We only paid £220 for the week for the cottage and i would recommend it. Google Roseacre cottage and it will come up. I have pics if anyone would like to see any.

We also love camping and i adore the North east coast. Found a great site at Filey where you can walk to the beach and the beach is dog friendly all year round unlike most. We will be camping in Cumbria next year as we had a fab holiday and cannot wait to go back. Cumbria = very tired little doglets.

Very Happy Just joined my first post
Try www.cottages4you.co.uk
Whitby was pet friendly but we went in November not very busy and beach restrictions regarding dogs had been lifted. Not sure what its like high season.
Thanks

welcome aboard Xeon

I love whitby - i just need to get there and to a beach when i don't meet any other people

my dogs are of the embarassing type that nobody would like to meet on a beach - unless on my 30' lunge lines
know where we can find a quiet beach up and around there?

Hi Xeon, and welcome to the forum Crowned

I hope you don't mind - I've edited your link as cottages4you is one of our fundraising sites, so entering their website via our own link raises funds for us Thumbsup

if you're unhappy with me editing your link, let me know and I'll undo it
