Hi,
I have just found this thread so never one to be quiet i thought i would introduce myself.
My name is Kay and i live in Doncaster and met Jackie through volunteering to walk the dogs after buying some petrol for the van off ebay!!!!!!!!!
I live with my long suffering boyfriend Mark and our little zoo as our familes often reffer to it. We have my 10 year old cross bread Spottie who i got from the RSPCA at least 8 years ago. Although a little madam she was my first on my own baby and the first think i got when i moved out of home. Didnt have a settee for a few months but had my spottie!!!!!
Next came my Jack-Jack about 3 years ago who is a Staffie who we sort of rescued from a family who had bought him for a 4 year old as a puppy and could not understand as he grew why he kept knocking her over accidently while they were playing Rolling Eyes We only went to look then we took him for a walk (all 5 footsteps), then he came for a one night trial and never ever went back. He is the baby of my bunch and always upto some mischief or another, he can be rather vocal and generaly is not a real fan of other dogs however this is very hit and miss with him.
Then finally the day before xmas eve i went and did my walking as usual at Rain and took a lovely elderly Staffie gent out called Dodger. We took him for a little potter and the idea came into my head lets take him home for xmas, Mark took a little more persuading maybe 3 minutes worth of come on it will be fun before he agreed. We agreed that we would take him and he could live in out kitchen where he would be warm and snuggly over xmas.
Well hands up i failed as a fosterer Embarassed We all fell in love with him so so much he just had to stay, im not saying it was easy for the first 4 nights i was sat up all night trying to keep him quiet whilst in his crate but we got there and he is the best dog i could have asked for. He is stubborn, lets rip every two minutes and boy does he smell but one look in his eyes and i melt as he just gives me a look of pure love. He is old and we are not sure how long we have left with him but everyday we do get is a special bonus!!!!!!! Love
Then we have the oldest kitten in the world, she is 10 but due to her owners moving house and leaving her locked in the attic with kittens she has had stunted growth. Everyone knows Sadie-Sue where we live as she can usually be seen walking behind us when the family go out. If you can imagine the whiskers kitten she is similar to that, very beautiful and striking but boy does she know it!!!!!!!!!! Wink
Moving out into the Garden we have Buster and Mollie the identical grey flop a lot bunnies, when i moved in with Mark he had buster as a house rabbit but he was rather disruptive (loved door frames and wires) and he never really took to Spot or Sadie he went to live outside with my rabbit at the time Saffie. We put Buster through the pain of being castrated and then Saffie died of old age she was about 9 ish. So i went along to the RSPCA and saw his twin so i thought it would be cute, however he is a bit hen pecked and Mollie can be a little bully but they generally love each other and cause havov running round the garden and doing bunny things.
Then we have the fishes well only one now as my Barney Boggle Eye died last week but he was 4 as well, so not a bad age for a little fishie. Marks fish who's name changes most days who we got is still going strong but women always live longer dont they!!!!!!
Well thats me as you can tell i am a bit of a talker and very rarely shut up but look forward to chatting to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Jennifer, I think there is a rescue centre up at Millhouses, but I'm not sure what they're called - maybe try yell.com?

Thanks everyone for all being brave enough to put up some information about yourselves. Its really lovely that you have - cos i know how much time these forums and sites do steal of our time.

But its nice to know people are out there - after all the work Strix has gone to in setting up the site - i hope we get lots of use out of it.

Great to hear all your lovely stories - and its good cos i keeps my memory fresh about all the things that have been happening around me. I am going senile also naomi and can't remember anything - apart from when we met you very very kindly offered your hubby to do all the lettering and design for our rescue van - which is at least 1 year ago cos its just been taxed again.

I have just pm'd you jennifer - and so hopefully you will be able to link in with us, we can ALWAYS do with dedicated volunteers - and make great use of any help offered. You just have to bear with me cos i am so forgetful - with remembering what i should have done, or am supposed to be doing

keep em coming!!!!!

Hi all,
I'm Jill and I met Strix and Jaq on the same local general interest forum where we formed an animal welfare group, all of my life I have loved animals with a passion, and now have achieved my childhood ambition of living in a menagerie Hehe
I live in Sheffield with Durham big scaredy cat lurcher, Meg mad collie/jack russel cross, and Lucy teensy poodle cross and gobby princess Very Happy
Then came the 4 cats Thomas grumpy Grandad of Poppy, rosie and now baby Oliver....Then last but not least Lily and Liquerice my 2 rescue bunnies and 2 very manly guinea pig friends George and alfie.
I am looking forward to watching this new forum go from strengh to strengh, there is so much difference we can all make, even by the smallest action Smile

Hiya, i'm Vikki and I live in South Yorks, I was pointed in this direction by my auntie-in-law (sorry Jane I know you hate that!) "hoochiecoochieman". I have four akitas, and am a Rep for Akita Rescue & Welfare UK and am involved with the "Deed not Breed" campaign.

hi i am tracey and live in cambridge. i have been fostering dogs now for a couple of years. i have fostered for i.r.r. and now millrescue. i love doing it. although sometimes very hard to say goodbye it is very rewarding. its great to hear updates and pics to show how happy they are. and sometimes get to meet them again which is lovely. i am owned by my five resident dogs. monty was a foster that i failed with as he fitted in here as though he had always been here. i take any breed of dog as long as they are dog friendly. not bothered how old or what breed they are. i have had a variety lol. from the small to the giant.
i have 2 children son 16yr and daughter 19yr. my o/h who is as mad as me on dogs, and wants to keep most of them lol.
i already used rainrescue board for mills dogs and was guided here from the main web.

Hi Vikki and Tracey
thanks for coming onto the board - and also for making yourselves known as well.

Nice to have a contact Vickki in akita welfare.
we have a link to them and i know a friend of mine was paying for vinnie and cassie - i think they were called cos we feature them on our site

akita's are having such a hard time at the moment. It must be very hard to rehome some of the older ones - and so sad all round.

I think it’s time that I got around to introducing myself, as I keep sticking my neb in here and there around the forum Smile

I’m Jane and my other half is Paul and the two Bullmastiffs we are currently sharing our lives with are Tippa and Hooch.

Many years ago we began married life with a GSD x Lab, six months after his arrival came a small, grey, GSD bitch that had been abandoned on the building site where Paul was working – we reckoned it was because she was 6 months old and needed a license for all of 7/6d – that’s all of 37 1/2p in today’s money, for you young uns out there. Sadly she died 5 days after being spayed Sad Then along came a black and tan Heinz 57 – he, loved people just hated other dogs. As the two boys got older we were asked if we’d like a 3year old Bullmastiff bitch, Breeze. Breeze came to us for a fortnight to see if she settled with the boys and if not she’d go back home with my brother in law. Needless to say she stayed and our love affair with Bullmastiffs had begun Confused Following the deaths of our two males, another Bullmastiff bitch - Bracken, eventually arrived Very Happy Following the death of Breeze at the grand old age of 11 and a half, Tippa came along. After the loss of Bracken earlier this year, we decided to enjoy Tippa as an only dog until one in need just happened along and that’s when Hooch came into our lives along with Jacquie and RainRescue. I hadn’t realised at the time that Jacquie had notified Bullmastiff Rescue about this young male in need of a home.
Since Hooch’s arrival Jacquie and I have ‘spoken’ on a regular basis and she sends Smile me up to the local kennel to take photographs of any dogs they have in, in need of homes. Sue then places the dogs onto the RainRescue website under the individual kennel and Jacquie works hard to get them re-homed or fostered until a suitable home can be found.

Hiya... I finally made it!
My name's Lottie, i'm 19 and studying dog training/behaviour.
I have two dalmatians, my first (Takara) I bought from a breeder two years ago. She is from working and show stock and very much a handful! Loving to be the centre of attention but needing the stimulation of a working dog!
I signed a contract with her breeder saying I would return her if I could no longer keep her and originally her breeder agreed to lift the endorsement she placed on her restricting me from breeding from her but when Takara had phantom pregnancies and became very nervous I chose to have her neutered as this was not the type of dog I wanted to put through a mating let alone everything that follows! Also, I didn't want to possibly pass on these characteristics.
Takara was a huge inspiration to me and is the reason I left university where I was studying French to pursue a career in dog training and care.

My second dalmatian, Eddy is apparently pedigree and I acquired him through the welfare section of the British Dalmatian Club. He was 11 1/2 when I adopted him over a year ago and had many issues being overweight, arthritic and nervous aggressive with other dogs but is now a much happier, healthier boy who most people mistake for a young dog! Eddy will be 13 in January, plays with other dogs and is such a joy to have around despite his little issues.

Takara and Eddy absolutely adore each other, for two dogs of such widely different ages they love each others company and play together all the time. They love nothing more than to wrestle on the living room floor or on grass where it's comfortable for Eddy to roll around. Eddy is definitely the boss no matter how much Takara winds him up, one word from him and she shuts up quick!

The dogs have very much changed my life, I was very ill when I first got Takara and she improved my emotional and physical health no end despite being challenging. They were my inspiration for starting my own dog products company and choosing to become a dog trainer.

I was invited to the forum by Strix who I met when preparing to get Takara and she generously allowed me to chew her ear off about the dog I was so desperate for!

Hi Lottie
Glad you managed to make it over, and thanks for introducing yourself

A brilliantly managed forum by Strix and a nice friendly bunch on here too - so I am sure you will walk in and feel at home.

Jacquie

Hi everyone
My Name is Helen.
I am owned by Albert and Tilly.
Albert is a lurcher collie X and from greyhound gap he about 9-10 now and a wonderful mummys boy whom i adore but can be a bit too collie like at time Rolling Eyes we have had him for nearly 1.5 yrs. He is my heart dog Embarassed

Tilly is a beautiful little whippet collie X type she has come from Thornberry and is a very young 14 Surprised . she races around and acts like half her age and we never expected her to be half as lively and lovign as she is. We have had her for 4 months now and have loved every minute of having her.

We also have guinea pigs a hamster and 2 fish. I would love more dogs but my OH is a realist and won't let me Sad

We spend our time working and when not working with the dogs.

We love camping and this year managed to go to Suffolk, Scarbourough, Knaresbrough, forest of dean and had a week in cumbria all with the dogs.

I wish i could do more for rescues Sad we do try and donate stuff and i am always supporting stuff that GGap do like online auctions etc.

We have had one foster dog little Ruby earlier this year who we took to stop her going to the pound she has now gone onto a life of luxury i get to see her this weekend i cannot wait.

I hope i will be able to contribute to the forum with my bit of knowlege and my sense of humour lol
Thanks guys oh and it was Jess22 who introduced me and i know some of you from another forum where my name is Adz x

Hello Helen - Nice to see another Lurcher owner - I too have a collie cross Lurcher - been with me for just over a year now from the SSPCA. She is completely manic and scatty but makes the perfect housemate for some of my bigger bullies as she takes their sometimes dominating traits all in her stride !

Welcome on board and happy Xmas to you too !
