I have noticed the request for dog coats on the Rain website. Just need to enquire as to whether knitted ones were any good for the poundies or the intended recipients - I do realise that knitted ones are not as easily washed as the material ones but do offer excellent warmth. I have just got one for my elderly Staffie and she loves it and my mother has asked if there was a demand for them as she would like to knit some for needy doggies. She is in her 80s but still keen to do whatever she can - bless her ! Very Happy

Ha

I bet even the huskies need to wear coats up with you in this weather.

b**dy freezin it is

Tell your mum YES YES YES

knitted ones fit so much snugger - and are great forkeeping the heat in - and they are more flexible to mold around old creaking joints.

what sort of pattern has she found?
I though of something that would slip over the head - come under the back - making sure its nice and thick to cover over the back/lumber region - and then with some sort of tie strings - tie under the belly and come back up to the back to either velcro or tie with stringy/cords

ask your mum what she thinks. it should be easier to knit like that - just make the neckquite flexible and elasticy as opposed to fixed cos we won't get it over every head -

a 3 legged yorky was taken into the pound last night - it would be great for that - maybe if she could do 3 sizes - starting with the smallones first?
tell her thank you snougles

I think she has downloaded a pattern from the Oldies site and sent off for 6 more ! There's enthusiasm. So once she has them I will ask her get knitting and send her a copy of your above post .

The k9 knitters i imagine have all sorts of patterns if you get stuck you could go on their wensite and see if anyone could help you. We have some jumpers for our dogs and they are great. we have one with buttons on the side to hold the belly flap onto the side which is not so great as Albert manaes to stick his feel through the gaps. we have found the ones which go over the head and have longer sides which can be pulled underneath with velcro or ties.

We are getting some coming in - and angela is making loads up from down south and a chap's mum is making a fair few.

I have now bought 40 of the Kingshead coats - which are fantastic. waterproof and are really adjustable. I have managed to get them at a good price.

Sheffield girls are brilliant - whenever you go down - the dogs are in coats, and a few volunteers keep going in and washing them
However, i don't seem to see many of the dogs at cliff wearing coats - which is strange when people are definately taking them up there.

maybe if they get some of these kingshead ones, they will fit snugger for them.
I know when i have any in here - even the big dogs - I have to put them 2 coats on just to keep warm so i know they need them up there.
