Just to let you know we have Leo with us now. He wasn't too far away in the end, only at Chesterfield.

The staff at the vets were all sad to see him go as he really is lovely. He's a big, tall boy. For his age he's in good health, but they didn't seem to know at the vets if he was ok with other dogs - he'd been barking at dogs as they went past him from his corner kennel, but was on his best behaviour when we got there . He looks as if he's been in the wars with the scabby bit on top of his head from the removal of a 'spot' and a big patch of now mainly dried up, wet eczema on his left shoulder and since he landed at the vets last Friday he's developed a new patch on the side of his face. They've given me some pills for it. He had a toe off last year on his back left foot but path reports were inconclusive and nothing has come back anywhere else, so they are happy that it was all ok. He was getting a bit stir crazy at the vets as he's not really been out but, when they took him out they said he just bumbled about but did seem to stiffen up after a short while. I said Bullies usually do bumbling about and we decided that his stiffening up is because he's not really had much exercise for the last 11 or so months.

He wouldn't jump into the car so we got the ramp out and got four faults for a refusal, then he promptly jumped in !!! He sat and watched where we were taking him for most of the way. We got home, brought ours out for a walk first and he barked at them. We met a lady with a dog and he barked at that. He walks nicely on the lead though but does tire quickly - so it'll be lots of short walks and lots of washes with it being so wet and dirty at the mo. He stood for his legs washing when we came back, had a big drink of water and promptly threw up Tippa is ignoring him, Hooch got a bit too close and he woofed and then ended up with Hooch's head in his mouth - no, blood spilt though

I thought Hooch could drool but this one gets the record

Brought them inside and he's got a massive great bed - where's he laying? spread between the mat and the bed on the tiles, but he does look as if he's used to laying on a hard floor, he's got calluses on his front legs. He's been woofing at Hooch, Tippa's gone to bed it's all too much for her but I've got a feeling it could be a long night. I took some pics when we were out - here are one or two

i am so glad he is safe. bless you for helping him. he is a total babe. he could drool for england bless him. could you go onto rescue helpers unite and give the update to all. they are waiting patiently for an update. please keep us updated on this fella.

I've updated the UK Bullmastiff forum about Leo and I know you'll think I'm dim but I can't find rescue helpers unite - so please feel free to liberate the bit I've put here about Leo to keep them informed, too.

He's only been here a few hours and he's really loverly, he will sit and wait for his tea - he's eaten every last bit , he gives a paw, he will sit, lay down and roll over for his tum scratching - so, he knows the basics.

I can't believe how quickly you all managed to sort this out - what a team!

Leo looks so much happier already, thank goodness the old boy's safe! I used to have a Mastiff X (with a Rottie) - they are such gentle giants, and I really have a soft spot for large breeds. What a gorgeous boy he is!!

Leo is a happy dog. He is in the process of being listed on the RainRescue site so that hopefully a new home can be found for him

He is a lovely dog and does deserve a home where he can be spoiled rotten and have a life of luxury from now on

This boy really does deserve a lovely home to spend the rest of his days in. He is a really nice dog, he's a bit like a giant teddy bear in that he just loves being cuddled and having his tummy rubbed. He was as happy as larry last night when he got into the living room - straight onto the rug and fast asleep



He's been having two or three short walks a day rather than the longer circuit that we would normally do and is coping really well as he's not thought to have had much exercise previously.

Today we've met some joggers, cyclists and a couple of horses and their riders. He watched them all go past with interest. The local shooters were out after the pheasants and he just looked in the direction of the shot as we walked on. He loves people anybody showing the slightest interest in him and he's off for his ears rubbing

He does look gorgeous and your camera snapping expertise makes him look even better.
Would you send sue the pic of him in front of the fire - he looks brilliant.

I so hope someone comes for him soon - and its not too awkward for you all with 3 there.

Shall we say life is interesting at the mo with three in the house - it's a bit like musical chairs with a difference

I have to say that we're really impressed with our two for accepting Leo into the house. We didn't know if it would work or not when I volunteered, Tippa has become very laid back - more than we ever thought she would, Hooch is still really very much a baby and a bit too bouncy for Leo - they will stand and bark at each other outside from one end of the patio to the other but then in the next breath they're all standing side by side waiting for a treat We've done apologising to the neighbours in advance for the extra volume, as Leo has a very big bark.

Inside Hooch is learning to just let Leo pass and then he moves. We are still moving very slowly with them all inside, they're separate when we aren't with them - we thought that was safest and it gets Leo used to having time on his own as I think he was used to being with his owner all the time before. In an evening once we settle down then they're together in the front room. They find their own spot and that's it - everyone is happy, snoring their heads off.



This morning we've been out for a walk and met a neighbour with her GSD and Rottie cross, ours obviously know them. Leo stood and barked, Paul stood back with him and we all passed and then he brought up the rear, joining in with us after a short distance and they all stood together for a treat with no problem - so we were quite impressed with that too. Imagine the town tamers walking down the road in a Western and that was us this morning

Following the short walks we're doing Leo seems to be moving better and he's not quite so puffed out. The eczema on his face is drying up nicely, but the patch on his side looks a bit warm today and he's had a scratch so he's a bit bloody. Other than that all is well at the mo

At the risk of sounding as if I want to get rid of him - I do hope he gets a new home quite quickly, he does deserve one for the rest of his days because he is a nice boy and I think that once he is settled his eczema will sort itself out.

Jacquie - I've made a file for Leo's pictures in the usual place, so Sue can liberate any she wants for him.

would you email sue on the admin addy and tell her to put him up in our special appeal also?

He is a really good example of the breed - Strix. We are just hoping that with everyone helping him he can get a lovely new home.
