please use below or adapt where apropriate when cross posting/advertising.

Rescue Helpers Unite is set up as a database for rescues. Helping Rescues Help More Animals

Set up by county's in Scotland, England, Wales, and Ireland. With transporters, homecheckers and fosterers the hope is to grow it as a databse so all rescues can join and then make use of the information.

Of course for this to work we need all animal lovers to help within their counties. This may help so many more animals rehomed

Please be aware it only opened 22/12/07, but whether u transport, foster, or homecheck or whether your a rescue needing helpers then please give it a chance to work

I've had a quick look at the link, and it seems like a really good idea, but having visited sites in the past that have grown too big to be useful, I'd suggest that there is other software that'd help you with this project much better than a forum

have a look at this and see if it'd be of more use (even if you decide to tack it onto the forum as has happened at CADTutor)

this may not be the answer for you, but it's an example of a searchable database, which may give you ideas Thumbsup

I totally agree with you Strix and hopefully they may be able to tapp into your knowledge about a good way forward.

Often when I am in urgent need of either transport, or foster or god knows whatever - i haven't the time to scrawl through what people have posted and where they are available for.
But
there used to be something that covered postcodes, and you could put in what you want and it searched with 5/10 miles of the p/code.

If think this forum rescueloversunite is fabulous - I always think we need something like a small groups co-op (co-operative)
so that in the end, we could be almost as big as one of the big ones - and thus get some fund raisers in there.

maybe the rescueloversunite could pull in people who would be happy to do fundraising work, or help with the paper work that some rescues struggle with, and thus those that can't or don't want to be hands on - can still make a massive difference.
I will start to pop on it too now

hello Very Happy

ok basically this is how it goes pretty much

say u needed a homecheck in staffordshire, u would go to england then staffordshire and then there is a thread in each county for homecheckers/fosterers and homecheckers. so u would have 1 thread in the county of people u could pm/phone/email.

that said there are fundraising for rescues sections and rescue appeals. even things such as putting up posters, every little helps.

in 7 weeks we have helped over 20 animals so its going good.

its very important i guess to remember to look in urgent, less than 7 days, this is where people put poundies etc, then between us we work out route maps and then contact counties between.

it sounds like it's doing really well Smile

I would ask you to consider how difficult it's going to be to administer when it gets bigger though

I can tell you from experience that people often put things in the wrong places, even if you think it's CRYSTAL clear where they're supposed to be, offers of help will expire (as people drop off, move house, forget how enthusiastic they were...), and if your site is REALLY successful, it'll become as much as a nightmare to search as some of the dog pub websites I've tried to use - you just give up and go elsewhere Sad

I'm only raising this now, as it's easier to make changes to something of this nature when it's still relatively small, rather than trying to migrate a ton of data later

... actually, we have an IT contact who may be of use to you

He's registered on here, but doesn't visit often - I'll see if I can find his username for you, and if you PM him, let me know and I'll text him to make sure he reads it Thumbsup
