Rain Rescue

Now there are a number of ways of looking at this, but as a volunteer for a rescue centre in Britain, and as somebody who holds a credit card that automatically donates to the rescue centre under this particular spotlight, I'm looking at it from the angle of I'm cancelling my credit card

It has come to light that one of the big names in 'pet rescue' has been bringing dogs into this country to satisfy the retail requirements of their rehoming centre. Now there is no reason to suppose they are not obtaining those dogs from rescue centres in the country they are bringing them in from, but if that is justification, then there is no commercial reason for not bringing pups straight into 'rescue' having bulk bought them from a puppy farm is there? logically speaking

If you knew a local rescue centre was bringing dogs into the UK to sell them, whilst local dogs were being PTS, would you donate to them?

The dog paper Dogs Today have run an article on the subject, and I urge anybody who has a view on the topic to write to them yourself, as they say they will continue to run with the story so long as there is interest in it

I had a fair amount to say with Dogs Today and they printed the article with a very broad minded attitude

most people in rescue came up with the same 'together' attitude.

Its no rescues thats causing the problem - we are all just trying to mopp up

sadly - unless someone like the kennel club takes a stance and pours more money and staff into the welfare argument - more dogs will suffer and die needlessly

its a good article and it made me dig deep and subscribe for 3 months anyway

I'd still rather see that money poured into the setting up of a control on breeding and something being done to crack the culture we have of not valuing an animals life - so the 'rescue' issue is tackled from the right end - ie not shoving dogs into the rescue 'system' in the first place! The current trend for the pyramid selling of some breeds is worrying and sickening, when you see what happens to the animals involved, and the inexperience of those who think they can continue full time work whilst letting the bitch get on with the litter on her own. The grants given to farmers who turn to puppy farming should be the first thing to be stopped! I'm sure any rescue centre would be able to put that cash to a heck of a better use!

Yes - there is a heck of lot of that roundabout where I live despite there being new welfare laws for animals
