Hello Strix,

Thanks for the welcome.

We don't know about the treatability of Joe's spinal stenosis yet, my first vet proved to be a little incompetant on various issues, one being keeping Jay waiting a whole 10 hours in a cage whilst waiting for his x ray, so I have now changed vets, we have his x rays and i have an appointment tomorrow night, but the osteopathic specialist says that Jay will need an MRI scan to determine which op (if any) he will need, the worst case scenario is a difficult spinal fusion at a cost of £4,000, the MRI separately will cost £1,000 and my policy wont cover me for all of the treatment and operation, so i need to see if i can make some arrangement with the vet. He is still not sure whether it may be cdrm, in which case there is no treatment sadly.

I remain hopeful though and whatever happens, Jay is a happy and contented boy, so we will play it be ear.

It has been suggested to me that i try to find a veterinary university who may be able to do whatever procedure is needed a little cheaper.

Sorry, i've rambled (must be my age Wink )

Alex

no - you haven't rambled!

I believe Liverpool may have one, and Cambridge

Our beagle has had an op on a ruptured disc and has fused quite nicely, although he did have the complication of some disc material fusing with his spinal chord so they had to hollow out a piece of bone to take the pressure off that. With lots of physio at home he's regained full use of both legs although that wasn't expected

his op was done at Thurnscoe, S. Yorks, although the same practice has a second site in Manchester

A quick search online says that there is also a uni vet hospital at Bristol - which may be nearer for you

oh - and it looks like they have a specialisation in spinal surgery

Good luck Thumbsup
