Max went in for his op this morning but his issues were much more complex than we first anticipated, initially we thought it would be a relatively straight forward op to mend his bottom ! It turned out thaht he had a large tumor on his spleen, which even if we had removed would still have had a very guarded prognosis and long term life expectancy of only year following the op, if he survived it...

So Jacqui and I made a very tough decision to let him go under the anesthetic.

RIP Max it was a pleasure to look after you even if it was only for a short time x

Thanks Lou - I know its been very a very hard day for you today. Thank you so much you are a brilliant supporter.

I have just put this up on the site for him - he will be a hard act to follow - but like Kay says, everyone you take in, wouldn't be there, if it wasn't for you and both of your 2 fosterers certainly wouldn't have been - if it wasn't for you. At least you gave him a great last week.

It is with a very sad heart that we have to tell you Max had to be put to sleep today. His foster mum took him for his operation this morning, and he was SO pleased to meet all those friendly people who just wanted to fuss and cuddle him.

She got a phone call in the morning, to say they had found some more lumps – and could/should they operate – so we said yes. Then later on, they found some more and had a scan taken.

Max was full of tumours and his spleen was one large tumour. So under the vets advise, we took the agonising decision to have him put to sleep whilst he was still under the anesthetic. I can’t tell you how sad we all are.

Max was one happy smiling dog. Who had been treated very badly by someone dumping him when he was obviously poorly and thin. We expect he has lost so much weight due to these tumours. Surely someone must have known. They dumped him and left him to his fate. Why couldn't someone have taken him to their own vets or the PDSA? Nobody needs to abandon pets because they can’t afford the treatment.

We can only smile tonight in the knowledge that Max had a fantastic last week with his fosterer. He sat and organised through the Maltby Pony Club Open show and wagged and greeted everyone that came in. He has romped and played in the fields every day and met lots of new friends. He has spent the last week having a bath, been flead and wormed and fed toast and chicken.

Max had a lovely final week, and he died peacefully and with dignity and there have been many that have cried over his sad loss, not least his lovely foster mum.

To think – he was just one of the dogs dumped in a pound – there are many many more tonight who aren’t that lucky.

Nite Nite Max – we will miss you so much - you was a special boy

Love your foster mummy and all at Rain Rescue, their friends and supporters

All money raised will go towards the bill which is around £175.

Thank you to all who donated for him.

So sorry to hear about Max's condition Crying or Very sad

this sounds like pretty much what happened to my Mum's Norwegian Elkhound a few weeks ago - they took him into the vets looking off colour after he'd already had an op to remove a growth, but a scan showed pretty much what you've described, and they had to take the decision to put him to sleep straight away (he was suffering rather badly at that point)

It sounds like Max had a fantastic week, and the decision was taken before he suffered too much

Goodnight Max
xx
